Spring Console Refresh

Furniture is an investment. Often times, we buy a piece & have it for years & years. However, this doesn’t mean that you have to feel uninspired by a piece after you’ve had it for awhile. Decor items & how we style furniture makes all the difference! I love to switch up decor pieces by moving them around to different surfaces or rooms. To help inspire you on what a big impact smaller decor items make I am showing you how I did a Spring console refresh in our formal living room.

Spring Console Refresh

I wanted to refresh this piece of furniture & corner of this room without breaking the bank. To achieve this I used some new, smaller pieces I got from CB2 to make a larger furniture piece & corner of a room feel completely new! If you’ve been following me for any stretch of time, you know that CB2 is my go to home store. I own countless pieces from them! In fact, most of the items seen below in the ‘before’ of our console styling are from there as well.

We had these two leather footstools before moving into our house. I put them under this console for extra seating, but after renovating our second living space we so much more seating in our home & don’t really need them. They felt cluttered in the space to me next to the chair & couch, so step one was getting rid of them. I love having a lamp in this room, but didn’t love that when this one was plugged in & functional, that you could see the cord so clearly. I felt like it took away from the beautiful table! After getting rid of the ottomans I started totally from scratch & just cleared off the whole table.

When decorating, I like to start with books. They are my guilty pleasure & I just love what they add to a space! I added a few new ones that were neutral in the corner. From there, I added in the black agate tray for a little contrast. I love the gold handles on this one! I felt like the space needed some height, so instead of adding a lamp, I opted for this gorgeous vase. It also adds a bit of texture to the space which I love! Fresh flowers in any space makes it feel instantly more homey to me & these camomile flowers are my favorite $5 bunch to grab.

I had this glass bowl that I loved so much & knew I wanted to use in the space. I added the wooden beads coming out of it that were around the neck of the bust originally in this space for a little extra visual interest. I wanted something to make it feel cozy, so I added this candle. It’s the most amazing, woodsy scent that really fills the whole room. Finally, I added a match cloche to balance the tray & serve as a functional way to easily light the candle.

After I refreshed the console, I felt like I wanted to freshen up the pillows in the area, too. I saw these natural, blush pillows in store at CB2 & felt like they were the perfect color. I also switched out the lumbar pillows in our chairs because our dogs love to sit in them & they were due for a major cleaning or a switch out. These boucle pillows are indoor/outdoor so actually perfect knowing the dogs will be on them a lot. They look so great with the sheepskin pillows that we’ve had here. Even switching out one pillow makes such a difference in a space!

I absolutely love how this refresh turned out! Every time I’m in this room now it feels fresh to me & I was able to achieve a completely new look & feel without breaking the bank. Even if you can’t buy new decor pieces, try moving pieces around from one room or tabletop to another. It makes such a big difference! I also like to play with different colors, textures, & weights of things during different seasons to compliment them.

I have been working on an update of our entire formal living room & this spring console refresh was just the start! Well, actually getting a new couch at the end of last year was the first start. I will be sharing the full reveal of this space with you all as soon as our other pieces arrive & I get them styled! We decorated our formal living room when first moved in & many pieces we had before & made work. Since getting settled, I feel like we’ve really defined our home style & want this space to reflect that even more!

Let me know if you have any other home post requests! Be sure you are following along on my home decor Instagram account @alo_abode where I exclusively share home decor. I made a REEL video you can watch here of how I did this spring console refresh. Stay tuned for our full formal living room reveal! XO
