BACK TO BUSINESS

As you all may know by now, I started back to work after a wonderful and busy summer vacation in my role as a Licensed Specialist in School Psychology a few weeks ago. The kids returned to school last week and the year has already started off busy. Going back to work (or school) is a perfect time to update your wardrobe, which is just what I did last week! I needed a few good pieces that I could wear to work, but wanted to buy pieces for work that I can also style for day or night. It’s important that pieces get a good CPW (cost per wear) ratio and being able to wear them for work or play ensures they will. I also want classic pieces that will stay in style over time.

ANN TAYLOR WORKWEAR

I went into Ann Taylor last week to pick out some new pieces and am partnering with them today in this ‘Workwear Wednesday’ post and sharing how you can style some of their new pieces from day to night. Whether you’re heading back to business after summer vacation, are needing a little update for Fall, or just needing some every day work inspiration, this post featuring Ann Taylor workwear is for you!

Few things are more classic and chic than a blazer. I found SO many good blazers in Ann Taylor that I wanted. I’m rounding up all my favorites for you below since there were so many good ones, but I settled on this black one. It is amazing quality and is such a closet staple piece! A black blazer is a great piece to invest in, because you will wear it so many times. I love wearing blazers and wear them often whether I’m going to work, traveling, or going out and about.

FROM DAY..

For work, I pair a blazer with an easy cami or shell top, black pants, and classic pumps. I’m able to wear black skinny jeans to work, so I opt for those whenever possible. This pair fits true to size and is really comfortable, while still being chic. If you’re unable to wear any type of jeans to your office, this pair of trousers looks amazing with this blazer as well! Paired together it gives off such a classic power suit vibe that I love. Something about dressing the part in a classic suit makes me feel like I can fearlessly take on the day. Every day tops like this can be styled so many ways, too. This one comes in four colors and is a great basic!

When possible, I love getting to work at coffee shops. Whether I’m working on a report after hours, need to get off campus to write without distractions, or if I’m working on blog work on the weekends, I love being somewhere that I can just focus on what I’m doing and not get side tracked by laundry, cleaning, or other interruptions at home.

TO NIGHT

When I’ve wrapped up the work day, I love to un-wine-d. My after work cocktail of choice is red wine, especially as we transition into Fall and the cooler months! I love that you can adjust just a few aspects of my day time work look to make it perfect for happy hour or date night. I always think of changes you can easily make in the car without having to run home, so they need to be simple, quick, and easy. I took off my cami top and went with a black lace bralette underneath,added a leopard belt, and a red lip. Viola! Three simple changes take this look from work to play.

A few other ways to take your look from day to night is to switch out your shoes. I love wearing heels to work, but if you prefer flats you can always add heels for cocktail hour. Adding a fun piece of jewelry, like a statement earring or necklace is another great way to change up your look. I got this pair that I will also wear with this blazer and so many other pieces throughout Fall.

Having new, cute workwear actually makes getting dressed for the work day fun! If you’re going from the work place to somewhere a little more casual, pairing sneakers with a blazer is another one of my favorite ways to style them. When wearing sneakers, I love to keep the whole look casual and just throw a t-shirt on underneath. This is actually one of my go to travel outfits because its comfortable, but the blazer keeps me warm! I’ve been styling blazers more casually like this a lot lately, which you probably saw in my Pacific Northwest outfit recap post.
