I often call over accessorizing my swimsuits #EXTRA, but truth me told, I love it. I get bored just putting on a swimsuit & not thinking about how to make a full look with it. We wear swimsuits so many times, that it can be fun to accessorize them differently each time to make them feel fresh again. I love making a whole look out of my swimsuits so today I am sharing ten ways to accessorize a swimsuit with you all. These photos are throwbacks to almost two years ago (insert crying emoji here) when I was in Mexico, but they sure are fun to look back on!
How to Accessorize a Swimsuit
SUNNIES
Sunnies may be the most obvious accessory for your swimsuit, but they are also perhaps the most important. I love choosing sunnies that tie in my whole swimsuit look, so even if they are one of the things I put on last, they are something I always have. I have light green eyes and they are very light sensitive, so if I’m outside, I’m wearing sunnies. I have quite a collection going and sunnies are something I always love to buy. I haven’t been wearing them as much in photos lately, but I still adore them and how they can make an entire look come together and totally change the vibe of an outfit.

HATS
If I’m spending any amount of time in the sun these days, I have a hat on or with me. They are an adorable and practical swimsuit accessory. My hat collection is slowly but surely growing and I have everything from boater hats to visors. As long as it protects my face from the sun, I’m happy!

JEWELRY
There are several options when it comes to jewelry or you can layer them all on. My favorites are necklaces, earrings, and bracelets. I always keep the same every day rings on, so those are a given with any look I have. I love a good pair of statement earrings that match a swimsuit or wearing every day layered necklaces. To me, I just feel like something is missing without jewelry.

BELTS
This may not be such an obvious accessory for a swimsuit, but I love it. I had so many people tell me they loved the trend I was helping to start when I styled two swimsuits in Mexico with belts over them. Personally, I love them because they help accentuate my waist. Plus, they are unexpected and instantly elevate the look if you ask me! I was wearing a gold mesh one that has an edgy vibe, but I love any kind. They look so great with one pieces and with high waisted solid swimmies, too. Try it and tag me in any photos you share of them!

KIMONOS & COVERUPS
Kimonos are probably my favorite kind of coverup. I love how breezy and flowy they are! If kimonos aren’t your thing, then using cute coverups to accessorize over your swimsuit can totally change up the look. I love pants, tunics, dresses, and even sheer cover ups. They all have such different vibes and there are so many fun options to match any suit!

JACKETS & SWEATERS
Another unexpected option, but one that I love. You know those cooler days when you’re determined to lay out, but maybe it’s earlier in the morning or it’s windy and there is a bit of a breeze? That is when a jacket or a sweater is a great option to add to your suit. You can repurpose them to wear out to dinner, which is helpful when trying to keep your packing under control, too.

BAGS
You always need a good beach bag, right? Whether I’m using a big one to take down to the beach or a little one pool side to keep my sunscreen and phone in, I love them in all sizes and styles. The best ones in my opinions are ones that you can wear during the day by the pool or on the beach and then take out to dinner at night.

SCARVES
Scarves are a classic summer accessory. Wear them pulled back over your hair, use them to tie up your ponytail, or even attach them to a bag. There are seemingly endless ways to style scarves. I love finding a scarf that goes perfectly with my swimsuit and have myself a fun little collection started now. Scarves will always be in style!

SCRUNCHIES & HAIR ACCESSORIES
Scrunchies and hair accessories are newer for me, but I adore them. I wear them on the day to day all the time now, but I started out with wearing them with my swimsuits. I often wear my hair up or pulled back when I’m poolside, so I like having something cute to pull it back with. From barrettes to clips to headbands to scrunchies– there are so many fun options to elevate your swimsuit look.

SANDALS
Shoes may be a given and depending on where you find yourself in a swimsuit, these may make or break a look. If you’re walking from the pool or beach to get lunch, you’ll need some sort of shoe, so you may as well make sure that they go with the rest of your swim look. I personally love flat sandals with swimsuits.

LIPSTICK
Adding a fun pop of color at the end of in the form of lipstick can add so much to any look & is another of my ways for how to accessorize a swimsuit. I love how a bright coral or red statement lip looks poolside. Spring and summer are such fun times to change up your usual lipstick rotation and add in some more bold colors. Plus, if you’re opting out of makeup while in the sun, wearing a bold lip can be a way to feel a little more put together.
