Velvet is one of the biggest trends right now. Rich fabrics like suede or velvet for Fall and Winter always seem to be around, but this year velvet has for sure taken the lead. Its everywhere! I personally love it. I’m sure you’ve noticed me wearing it a lot lately and I’m here to tell you that you will continue to. Everyone freaked out over the red velvet blazer I was wearing at NYFW in this post and for good reason. Velvet makes a statement no matter what, but choosing a bold color only adds to it.
As with any trend, if you’re unsure of whether you’re into it and you want to slowly incorporate it into your wardrobe, start with accessories. There are so many amazing shoes and bags out and you’ll be able to wear them again and again to get great CPW (cost per wear) out of them. A blazer in a classic color is also a great option! Velvet tends to be a more lux fabric, so pieces are often a little more pricey, but they are for sure worth it. Velvet may be a big trend this year, but it always tends to be around in the cooler months, so you’ll be able to wear it for several years.
Let’s talk a little about the navy velvet shirt dress I’m wearing. I loved this piece, because it would allow you to incorporate velvet into the workplace. It’s a bit of a splurge, but worth it to me because I can wear it for work and play! It is such an effortless piece, but I wanted to dress it up a bit with this metallic belt that matches my booties.
