It’s not hard to tell by scrolling through my Instagram feed that I am drawn to classic pieces. My closet is primarily neutrals– whites, greys, blacks, tan, and blue. In the fall I consider burgundy a neutral as well. Colors do creep in, but I can’t help but go back to my classics. The reason is that the cost-per-wear is the best and you never look back at a pattern and think “omgosh what was I thinking?!” You can easily add in trendy pieces without sacrificing timeless style. Because I think its so important to have your closet stocked with these classic pieces that you can mix and match through the seasons, I wanted to share 15 closet staples to stock up on now.

Take this top for example. Its a classic blue button down, but it has a little fun ruffle detail on the sleeves. I bought a small in it and went for a bit of an oversized look. I wore it unbuttoned a little here with a black bralette underneath and the sleeves rolled up for more of a relaxed look. This would be perfect for the office, too! It’s a little bit of a splurge, but I was so obsessed I thought it was worth every penny. I paired it with my new favorite black skinny jeans and this fun embellished heel. My jeans and shoes are both under $100 right now. I went with a clutch to keep it fun and finished off the look with my go to round sunnies. My clutch is under $30 and these sunnies are under $150. All of these items are a part of my closet staples that I am sharing with you below.

I can dress up my black skinny jeans for work, so I wear these a few times per week. Dress them up, dress them down.. whatever. You need a pair that makes you feel good no matter what you’re wearing or doing! Black jeans are always worth the splurge in my mind since I know how much use I get out of them, but I’ve included some in every price range below.

A classic button down: You can wear this to the office or out either unbuttoned, tied up, or paired with shorts or a mini skirt. Button downs have to be one of the most classic and versatile pieces of clothing for both men and women. You can wear yours more fitted or buy it oversized for an even more relaxed look.

A comfortable neutral heel: Comfortable because you need to be able to wear your heels for hours without problems. This way you can wear them to the office, out and about, or on the dance floor at a wedding one night. I love a fun little detail on them, but go for a solid one if you want them to be one you can wear for years to come. A neutral heels is always worth a splurge, but if you can grab them on a bargain you don’t have to worry as much about messing them up on a night out. I don’t know about you, but I always seem to find cracks in the sidewalk to step in.

A neutral clutch: Because you need a bag that goes with your heels. I like clutches that are big enough to fit everything I need for a night out in them. As much as I wish I could go out with just my phone and a lipgloss, truth is that I also need my keys, some cards, gum, etc.

A go to pair of sunnies: I think everyone needs their signature pair of sunglasses. I love these round ones because they are perfectly my style. I’ve been more and more into splurging on sunnies lately, because I realize how much I wear them. No matter the price point though, find your style and let them be your go to pair!

A denim jacket: This is the first article of clothing I grab when I need to layer. Even in the warmer months, I like to carry one along with me to put on when I’m cold inside. I like a medium wash best if you’re only going to choose one to get.

T-shirts in every color: My favorite thing to wear. I always have several versions in my closet in every color from v-necks to pocket tees, all of which I wear until I either stain them or get holes in them. I love dressing my t-shirts up with heels or statement jewelry and wearing them under jackets when it starts to get cold.

A classic leather jacket: Whether you get a black on or a tan one (or both), you’ll wear them time and time again. I can’t think of a year in my life that I haven’t worn a leather jacket. I currently love the moto silhouette the best because I think it looks great under dresses or with pants.

A black leather chain bag: One day I will splurge on a classic black Chanel bag, because it will never go out of style. In the mean time, I go for a more affordable option with quilted leather and gold chain detailing. I like one big enough to fit my sunglass case in so I can wear it day or night, but I think having a go to option in any size is a necessity.

Slip on sneakers: Comfortable, practical, easy. Whether you are walking the dog, running errands, or just having a casual Friday, sneakers are the easiest shoe to throw on. I wear mine year round and use them to make a dress more casual or to keep my jeans and a t-shirt simple.
