I wear black year round. While some may retire their darker colors in the warmer months, I can’t say peace out to my tride and true classic black. Which is why I am sharing how to make your LBD spring friendly with you all today. I’ll never forgot watching an episode of The Hills or The City or one of those oh so guilty pleasure MTV shows back in the day and hearing Whitney Port presenting to some buyers from Neimans and them telling her, that even in Dallas, Texas, you’ll find women in all black year round. It’s classic, it’s easy, it’s slimming, its chic. Black during Spring is totally acceptable in my book, just add Spring-approved accessories. When choosing a LBD for the warmer months, try to find one that is light-weight like this one! One, it will keep you cool and two, it makes it more seasonally appropriate. Also, try to find one with a fun detail: a cold shoulder, a ruffle, a scallop, some lace detailing, or a little embroidery.
Now, on to how you can spice up that LBD.
ADD A COLORFUL STATEMENT EARRING
While I am not typically one to wear really bright colors, I do love to add color in with my accessories. Why? Because it doesn’t feel like I’m over committing to a piece, they are affordable, and it’s a fun little pop with out being overwhelming to me. Bright, texture filled statement earrings are everywhere right now, so I’ve shared a few of my favorites to brighten up your LBD. I made this dress Spring-friendly with a statement earring, but there are some other great ideas for you, too.
ADD AN OPEN TOED BLOCK HEEL
I went with a black lace up heel, but there are SO many fun options right now from mules to a more classic heel that will help keep your LBD Spring approved. I’d avoid a more wintery bootie and save those for shorts or other items that you typically only pull out in the warmer months. More on that another time, but for now, choose a fun Summer shoe and let those toes see the sunshine. Block heels tend to be more comfortable, so you can wear them all day and into the night if needed.
ADD A CLUTCH
I think clutches make an outfit so easy and effortless. I don’t know about you, but if I’m carrying a satchel big enough to fit a ton of stuff in it, I’m going to put a ton of stuff in it. Multiple pairs of sunglasses, some vitamins, whatever. A clutch helps you prioritize what you need and keeps your outfit look polished. I kept mine black, but it’d be so cute to do a colorful clutch as well.
One of the secrets to adding color to your black is to pick one, possibly two, and stick to it. You don’t want bright colorful shoes, a bright clutch, and earrings. Try to add in your non-neutral colors in one area and keep the others a little more toned down. For example, if you go with a gray block heel, find a clutch in a similar netural hue and go for the statement earring. If you wear a blue heel, you could do a complimenting earring and a black clutch. Just don’t go full on neon with a ton of colors with several accessories.

Adding a cute straw hat, a neck scarf in a fun print, or a pair of statement sunnies can also transform an outfit. Shop some of my favorite picks below.
