The cooler seasons make me want to bring out all the richer fabrics like velvet, leather, and satin. As we get closer to the holidays, I love to add more metallics into my wardrobe, too. I often hear people saying that they are hesitant when mixing textures and metals, so today I wanted to talk about why I love doing this so much and easy ways to ensure its done the right way. I’m also rounding up a few other options for you at the end of this post to shop.
First, let’s talk mixing textures. Leather is always my go to in fall and winter and this year velvet is unavoidable, so I wanted to combine the two. I kept it simple and classic with a cami that you can wear time and time again and my go to vegan leather moto jacket. This jacket is my fav because of the gold hardware on it. Another way to combine these textures would be with a velvet mini skirt and a leather jacket or with a velvet tunic and leather leggings.
Next, mixing your metals. I love the metallic trend for both clothing and home decor and I like to include silver, gold, and even rose gold or copper. When done right, it’s so easy to include both and let them play off each other. I went with statement silver accessories and then had gold hardware on my jacket with some gold jewelry. I tend to wear more gold than silver jewelry so mixing metals is something I do almost any time I wear these shoes or this bag.
The key to mixing either of these is to not over due it. You don’t want velvet shoes and a top with leather leggings and a jacket. Pick two clothing items to go with and then of course, accessories. For a rich fabric like velvet, I prefer to let one item make the statement. When it comes to mixing metals, don’t over due, but ensure it’s balanced. You wouldn’t want bold metallic silver accessories like my shoes and clutch with one random piece of gold jewelry. I naturally mix metals in my wedding band stack and with my every day jewelry, so I kept those simple as I usually do and then let my gold hoops and necklaces play off the gold metal details on my jacket.
I wanted to share a little more on my look. These jeans fit like a glove and are such a good, rich color for fall and winter. They fit true to size! This rust color cami also looks so great paired with leopard. I had a hard time deciding how to style it because it looked good with so much and is such a fun, layering piece that also makes a statement. If you haven’t added metallics into your wardrobe this clutch and/or these pumps are a great place to start. This one of my favorite style clutches and these pumps are just the perfect height to give your look the perfect amount of sass.
In case rust isn’t your color, I wanted to round up a few other options for velvet camis for you below. Most of these have several color options themselves, so be sure to click through to see them all! As always, just click on any of the photos below and you’ll be taken to that product’s page where you can shop.

We spent our weekend getting our new place organized. We’re waiting on our new bedroom furniture to arrive, but did all we could until then. The closet is almost perfectly in order and we hung curtains and pictures. We have a few that won’t work quite the same in this place like they did in the old one and of course, so new spots where we’ll have to find new things. We got a new dining table also that I can’t wait to share. it was so fun to decorate the center of it for fall! I’ll be sharing more of our place on Instastories as it comes along and then doing a full home tour when we get it all finished. In the mean time, I’m sure I’ll continue to make trips to The Container Store every other day and weekly trips to Home Goods. I’ve ordered quite a bit online to save some trips. Stay tuned! XO
