This past weekend I took a quick road trip down to Austin (aka ATX) for SXSW. If you’re unfamiliar South by Southwest is sort of where the tech, music, and film industries all meet in a festival deep in the heart of Texas. It started the year I was born and has grown bigger each year. The past few years its really seemed to blow up! I attribute that to social media and more people learning about it. I went last year (see that post here) and had so much fun, so I wanted to attend again this year. It’s always so fun and I love any excuse to go to Austin, so I think it’s something I’ll plan to attend from here on out. Today, I’ll be sharing my SXSW recap including what I wore and what all we did!

After getting into town, Lynlee from Gal About Town and I met up and went to lunch with our photographer, Vanessa from The Retro Penguin who came down with us for the day. We went down to South Congress street, which is one of my favorite areas in Austin to walk around, take some photos, and each lunch at Perla’s. Perla’s is such a cute spot with a great patio. Seafood is their speciality and I always get their grilled fish sandwich and fries. If I’m there for lunch/dinner instead of brunch, I love getting their mac and cheese, too.

After we left South Congress, we went over to Rainey Street. Rainey is an adorable street with tons of little houses turned into bars and restaurants. They almost all have outdoor space and its such a fun area to walk around. It’s also home to one of my favorite hotels, Hotel Van Zandt. We went to a bar called The Bungalow to hang out with our friends from Express, who we had partnered with during SXSW. They had such a fun event/party going on and we had a great time while hanging out with them! Not too mention, we loved all the cute clothes!

From The Bungalow we made our way down Rainey Street to Un-bar-lievable, which is such a cool little bar that has a fun circus theme going on. I’m not a fan of the circus because of how they often treat the animals, but I am a fan of bars with fun things like games, slides, and giant animal figures. This one is too cute to miss!

After we left Rainey Street we went to Olamaie, which is a delicious Southern food restaurant. They have THE most delicious biscuits ever. For real. Even if you just stop by for a drink and biscuits, be sure go to by here! When we wrapped up dinner we went out to a bar on West 6th Street called Green Light Social. We stayed here until the end of the night when we grabbed some late night grub and went home. The photos below are actually taken outside another of my favorite Austin restaurants, Ranch 616. Go and order a ‘ranch water’ cocktail! They are dangerous, but delicious.

The next morning, we woke up and went to grab brunch at one of my favorite spots, Elizabeth Street Cafe. This is just a block or two off South Congress and is not only adorable, but SO good. It’s french-asian fusion and is so good!

We spent a little more time on South Congress before heading out of town. There are so many adorable shops, restaurants, and vendors selling the cutest things all up and down the street! The South Congress Hotel and Hotel Saint Cecilia are two of my favorites located in this area.
