To stay in or go out? I feel like this is the age old weekend question (as in literally, the one you ask yourself as you get older) and especially one we ask on New Years Eve. Sometimes, it can be more of a hassle than its worth to go out on New Years. By the time you get your surging Uber, go to dinner with likely a prix fix menu, and go to a party, then get an even higher surging Uber back home, you’re looking at a really pricey night. Plus, the big parties or different events an often be hyped up so much that they are a bit of let down or just a complete cluster. This has led us to asking the question of if we even want to go out or not and what our NYE plans should be. I figured many of you may be in the same boat as us, so today I wanted to share my ultimate New Years Eve guide and round up some clothes and accessories no matter what your plans

PAST & PRESENT

We’ve done it all on NYE. We’ve traveled, we’ve done the big parties, we’ve done friend’s houses, we’ve done ranches or cabins, and we’ve done a mix of going out and staying in. Last year we went to dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in Dallas, Town Hearth (I promise a Dallas restaurant series is coming soon), and then came home to drink good champagne, play Monopoly, and watch movies with our sweet pup. No matter what we’ve done, there are always pros and cons, but ultimately I love any excuse to celebrate!

If you’re following along on Instagram and you watch my stories, then you may have heard me talking about our plans this year. We are going out for dinner at the same amazing restaurant as last year and then going to Beats & Bubbly, which is a black tie event at the Perot Museum here in Dallas that a friend of mine puts on. We’re so excited to get dressed up and have some fun out and about with our friends!

FOR A NIGHT OUT

The most common plan for NYE seems to be a night out on the town. This can include so many different things from a good dinner to a cocktail party to even a black tie event like what we’ll be going to. I know it can be difficult to sort through the seemingly endless options of clothing and accessories out there, so I am breaking down my top picks by category for you all to shop.

I think a quick way to guess a girl’s age is on NYE to see whether she brings out a coat or not. This may not always be a fool-proof plan, but I swear my girlfriends and I always thought of a coat as a burden or like it would ruin our outfits, haha. I love wearing either a sequin bomber on NYE or planning a stylish coat that goes with my look so I am not freezing going in and out of places that night. You never know how long you’ll have to wait for an Uber or something outside, so may as well come prepared.

Below are my top picks for NYE if you’re having a night out on the town. I’ve broken them down by category and included items in all price ranges. I also tried to pick items that you can wear again whether it’s to a wedding or repurpose some how. Find my tips for how to dress down sequins for more ideas on repurposing them to wear again! Even if you opt for a classic LBD, it’s fun to get a new pair of dress shoes to make the look fun and festive. I think you should have at least something with some sparkle on such a big celebration night! FOR A NIGHT IN

A night in on NYE doesn’t have to be boring! Some of my most fun NYE in the past few years have either been at someone’s house or out at a ranch or something else a little more chill! It’s fun to decorate, wear fun glasses or hats, drink out of NYE cups or glasses, and still sport some festive sequins. For my New Years spent ‘in’ I like wearing festive PJs or loungewear and a sequin accessory or two. It can also be fun to get dressed up in sequins at a house party or home, too!

I’m a sucker for games that get everyone involved or make the night more interesting, so I’m including a few of those for you all below, too. If you’re hosting the ‘night in’ party on NYE, it can be a great reason to up your entertaining game with some fun new items. Whatever your plans are this NYE, I hope that this helps you get what you need to be festive and ring in 2019! With Christmas looming it can be hard to think ahead to the next holiday, but it will be here so soon after that it’s best to go ahead and plan now! We head to Mexico for Christmas on Friday and I am oh so excited for time away in the sun with family. Plus, I can’t wait to catch up on sleep. I get two weeks off for Christmas and NYE and it’s amazing. I hope you all are looking forward to Christmas! If you’re still shopping, be sure to check out all of my gift guides under my ‘Holiday‘ tab. Most sites have so many good gift guides with info about which ones are still available to ship by Christmas. One of my favorite retailers for fun gifts will definitely get it to you in time if you order soon. I’ll have a last minute gift guide up for those of you who are doing some last minute shopping later this week. XO

  1. I adore your dress! This year I also can’t make up my mind if I’ll stay in with my husband or go out and celebrate. I think my favorite way to celebrate is at someone’s house (or ours) with friends, with lots of laughter and silly games. And tons of glittery stuff! 😀

  2. You and your friends are so pretty in all these sequins! For NYE, I like a mix of low key and a little bit of a party. This year, I’ll be going to a ski resort – mix of old and young kids. Low key and perfect for me.

Hope you have a wonderful holiday and a happy NYE!
