A Simple Relationship Hack

Over Labor Day Weekend we ventured back to Arkansas to spend some time with family. Charles is from a small town in Arkansas & I went to both undergraduate & graduate school in Arkansas, so we love being able to go back & visit. We wanted to be extra cautious before going to see family, so we both got COVID tests & were so happy to have negative results so we could get out of town for a few days. While we were there, we got to talking with Charles’s step mom & dad about grocery shopping because they had stocked the pantry for all of us to be in town over the long weekend. It also led us all to talking about simple relationship hacks. What do a simple relationship hack, grocery shopping, & our recent long weekend with family all have in common? I’m getting into it more today.

A Simple Relationship Hack

While we were talking about grocery shopping, Charles’s step mom was saying that often times when his dad goes to the store, he ends up coming home with the ‘wrong’ things. Charles totally does the same thing! It leads to funny little arguments because you obviously appreciate that they went to the store to share in the house chores & errands, but you’re still a little annoyed that you didn’t get just what you needed or wanted. Anyone else relate?

This is such a small thing, but definitely something so many couples may find themselves bickering about. It always reminds me of the scene in The Breakup where Jennifer Anniston had 12 lemons on the shopping list & Vince Vaughn only got 6. She very specifically wanted 12 & he couldn’t imagine why someone would need 12 lemons. Personally, I go through that many a week easily because I put lemon juice on everything. I believe she needed 12 to make a centerpiece for a dinner party. I digress.

If you know something is going to lead to a little argument & you can avoid it, that is such a simple relationship hack that really works.  Instead, come up with a simple solution to avoid the argument. This sort of relationship hack to help prevent silly little fights that we all go through, especially when most of us are spending more time than ever with our significant others, is necessary! There are so many other big issues in day to day life & in the world that worrying if you get the right groceries shouldn’t be one. You definitely have to pick your battles!

When we were chatting with family about bickering that may arise from grocery shopping, Charles’s step mom was sharing how she started using Walmart‘s online pickup & delivery this year & that it saves a little argument because they get exactly what you need! Plus, it saves everyone time & is the safest option right now. We have been doing the same thing & it is not only such a good relationship hack, but time saver– which we know I am always all about.

Online Pick Up & Delivery

I’m sure by this point most of us have used some sort of online pick up & delivery service. We personally love both options depending on what our week looks like! Walmart online pickup & delivery has a $35 minimum & a small delivery fee applies. We personally think that time is money & feel like the small fee is 100% worth it! The minimum is never a problem for us either because we prefer to stock up on grocery items to avoid having to grocery shop (whether online or in person) a few times a week. Pickup & delivery is available in select markets.

The online grocery shopping process is so simple & quick! First, you order your products at walmart.com/grocery or through the Walmart mobile app. A perk of using it again & again is that your favorites are saved so you can easily add previously purchased items to your cart, which is amazing! Then, you select your pickup/delivery time & submit your order. You can opt into email, text message, and/or app notifications to be notified when your order is ready for pickup or on it’s way. If you are picking up you can check in with the Walmart app to let them know you’re on your way (My FAV feature). When you arrive, you just follow the orange signs to the pickup area & park in the designated spot & a Walmart associate will bring your order to your car. If they are dropping it off at home, they’ll simply do contactless delivery to your home! Last but not least, you’ll get a receipt via email and/or within the app. Contactless, easy, & so quick! You can find delivery or pickup times as soon as today depending on where you are.

When we started shopping online for our groceries (I shared more about that when I shared 7 tips for getting back on track after vacation), we were hesitant to trust someone else with picking our produce, but Walmart pickup & delivery associates are trained to pick the freshest items & we’ve never had an issue with the quality of what they pick. They offer 100% freshness guaranteed. If an item is not available in your pickup or delivery order, personal shoppers will substitute for an equal or better item at no additional cost. If you are unhappy with something they picked, you can call customer care for a full refund!

I told Charles’s step mom that I was so happy to hear how much she loved Walmart‘s grocery pick up because we were also such big fans & that I was actually working with them on a post to share it with you all. The timing was too funny! If you want to avoid another errand on your to do list, avoid a silly fight with your significant other, & want to be more safe, I definitely recommend trying Walmart’s grocery pickup & delivery. We love how convenient it is!

One of my most embarrassing moments in life actually has to do with grocery shopping in Walmart in graduate school & it could have totally been avoided if online grocery shopping was a thing back then.
