Living Room Reveal

If you have been following along since we bought our first home & moved in early in 2019, then you know my approach to decorating our home (AKA a lo abode) has been slow & steady. I don’t like to decorate all at once, as I feel like you can always tell something was rushed. I like to take my time & find pieces that we will love for years to come. As we’ve been finishing rooms, I’ve been sharing them along the way with you all & today, about 15 months after moving in, I finally have our living room reveal to share! It’s just in time because as I’m sure you’ve seen on stories, we are in the midst of a big renovation. We’re turning an old garage conversion into a family room that will be open to the kitchen! Just as I finish one project, I’ll be starting on another big one. Also, check below at the bottom of this post for an awesome giveaway opportunity.

Living Room Reveal

I’m so excited to share our living room reveal with you all today. This space is smaller than the family room we are currently renovating now. I’m not sure the difference between a living room, a family room, & a den, but we’re just calling them different things to distinguish amongst ourselves so let’s just go with it!

I am finally sharing our formal living room reveal with you all today including thoughts behind the design & sources for everything we have.

This chair actually used to be in our guest room, but I ended up moving it from that space to replace with a mirror & the chair ended up in the living room in place of a leather butterfly one. I actually could not love it more in this space! It lightens it up & gives it such a relaxed vibe. This custom print from Josh Young Design House was one of the finishing touches for this room. It has our wedding date & location on it. I got it framed at a local framer here in Dallas & absolutely love it. The little cocktail table next to it is perfect to make it functional for sitting.

This console table was one of the first purchases I made after we closed on our house. I had been eyeing it for months! I love the wood contrasted with the metal legs & marble top. Plus, it’s functional for storage! We have a ton of serving pieces inside. It was the perfect place for a record player, which we knew we wanted in this room. Hanging over it is a picture that I took when visiting Rio de Janiero when I visited several years ago when my husband & I spent a summer in South America. The other photo prints are of a drink & a cigar, a photo I took in Positano, a print of a girl’s hair in the wind, a print from a friend of a Sarah Bahbah photo, a photo of us in Paris, & this print of the Empire State Building in NYC.

To the left of it on the floor is a gold magazine rack that we use as a record holder. It was a splurge, but I love it so much & just couldn’t find a less expensive option. On that same side is this white birds of paradise plant in this grey concrete planter that is really affordable for the size. I get asked a lot about our plants inside our house so I wrote a post all about my indoor plant tips. To the right of it is this rattan ottoman that we have our record speaker on. I love the retro vibe of this speaker! It comes in a few other colors, but the white was my favorite.

We’ve had this sectional couch since we first moved in together a number of years ago. We chose the fabric for it & are really happy with it. It’s held up pretty darn well considering we have two dogs who shed & love to dig outside. It’s super easy to spot clean & I’ve only had it professionally cleaned once. To keep the room neutral, we went with this big jute rug that we are so happy with. It’s really affordable for the size (9×12) & is great quality. The pillows on it we’ve had for quite awhile. I love that they are neutral, but that they add some fun texture with the sheepskin & a little metallic detail. We have a grey faux fur blanket on the end of the couch that is SO soft. I had this one through the cooler months, but may switch it out for something lighter during the summer.

I love this little corner of our living room. This lucite console table was another of the first purchases I made when we closed on our home. It also comes in a larger version. We had these two leather ottomans before & they fit perfectly here. It’s great to bring them out for extra seating or foot stools as needed. We got two of these light grey velvet chairs to go in front of the window. We didn’t want anything that blocked it, so these are perfect. I’ve since switched these pillows for these. The dogs LOVE to sit & stand in these chairs to check out everything going on in the neighborhood, so the stitched pillows did not hold up well with their nails.

This art print is of my girl, Stevie Knicks, playing the tambourine. I LOVE it. It took awhile to find something to go up here, but as soon as I saw this I knew it was perfect. I am obsessed with the bust statue on the table. Her name is Judy! She looks really heavy, but she’s not. I added this wood garland around her that matches another one I have across the room in a small shadowbox. I love the way it looks! This vase is one of my favorites for fresh flowers. I added a diffuser behind it now to keep the room smelling good. This rattan lamp ties in with the other rattan pieces in the room.

It’s all in the details, right? It took me what seemed like forever to finally style this media console. I love how it turned out, but inevitably I am always rearranging pieces when I find new ones I love or when I get bored. This black & white vase is such a great place to put my most recent fresh flower finds. Candles are a must for me to keep a space feeling cozy. I have a post all about how to make your candles last longer if you are a candle lover like me!

I will forever cherish this piece. This is by a local Dallas artist, Lauren Williams, who creates these insanely gorgeous canvas with movement pieces. I LOVE them. We worked together to custom design this one for this space & I could not love it more. We have this sort of awkward wall right when you walk in our front door (the dining room is right behind it) that I couldn’t figure out what to do with. This is the first thing you see when you walk in, so I really wanted it to be a special piece. When I first discovered her, I knew one of these would be just what we needed. We worked to make sure the size & colors went perfectly in our space & they ended up just that way! Lauren has so many incredible pieces on her site & I cannot recommend one of these truly one of a kind pieces enough. If you sign up for her newsletter you’ll get first dibs when new collections drop! They often sell out fast.

I hope you all loved seeing our formal living room reveal. I can’t wait to share more home content with you all soon once our remodel is finished. I think having our floors refinished will make all of our spaces look completely different! I’ll also have an entire new space to share with you all.
