Our Wedding Day: Part One, Getting Ready

It’s a very exciting Wedding Wednesday because we finally have all of our wedding pictures back and I cannot wait to share them with you all!! It was so much fun to sit down my hubs and look through all of these the other night. We got to reflect on little moments throughout the day and laugh at so many great memories! I didn’t want to overload and post like three hundred photos at once, so I thought I would break the day down and share them gradually with you all over the next few weeks. This way I can share some fun little memories from the day with you along the way! I’m going to start out with getting ready on our wedding day: part one. I’ll share my pre-wedding time first (since I started getting ready much earlier in the day than he did, naturally) and then share his!

First, for those of you who are new here, be sure to check out my other wedding posts for more on our wedding! To give a little background, we had an intimate destination wedding in Florence, Italy and a gorgeous villa/ boutique hotel called Riva Lofts.

I’ll start with a few details from our wedding day and then share my getting ready photos in the order that everything happened!

I did my own wedding makeup after lessons, tutorials, and a lot of practice. I am working on a tutorial featuring everything I used for you all, so stay tuned! In the mean time, you can shop some of the products I used below. I trialed so many different products to find out what I liked best and what stayed on. I wanted a glam version of my usual ‘date night’  make up and I think it turned out pretty spot on!

This ended up being one of the only solo photos I had on our wedding day! We didn’t get any of me alone in my dress. I loved this little lacey white romper and robe (c/o) to get ready in. I still wear both all the time when getting ready and I love that they bring me back to this moment when I was putting on my jewelry and was about to get changed into my wedding dress! My sis-in-law does my hair (She works at Chad Rookstool Salon in Dallas and is THE best), so I did it first and then she helped me touch it up.

My mom, Charles’s mom, and his sister helping me get my shoes on and then buttoning up (or zipping up) my wedding dress. I got changed with just them in the room, as they were the only ones who had seen my dress beforehand (more on that here). Aren’t they all beautiful? I loved their dresses and thought they all suited them perfectly! I did a whole post about dresses for the mother of the bride and groom that you can see here.

Such a special moment between my mom and I! She is an exceptional mother and is the most hard working woman I know. She did so much for Charles and I throughout our wedding planning process and I will cherish this photo forever! I think it’s definitely a framer for my bedside table.

This is just before I did a first look with my girlfriends (again, more on that here). They had not seen even a photo of my dress, so they all turned around and then I came out after being hidden. You can see me in the bottom left corner waiting to count to three and tell them they could turn around to see me in my dress!

I grabbed my bouquet after doing a first look with my girlfriends for some photos outside with them. We had to make sure Charles was hidden because we didn’t do a first look and didn’t want to accidentally have one! I waited to put my  veil on until the actual ceremony so there was a little extra drama for that aisle walking moment.

How stunning are all of these women?! I promise I don’t pick my friends based on appearance, although you may not know based on these photos! The best part? They’re even prettier on the inside. You know people really love you and value your friendship when they are willing to put so much on hold in order to travel for you and celebrate you on of the biggest days of your life. Each of these women made my wedding weekend so special and I am forever grateful for each of them. It is so humbling!! Shoutout to my sweet friend, Katie who was supposed to be here but due to unfortunate airline circumstances, was unable to make it! I was also missing a few other sweet best friends who couldn’t come for various reasons such as just having a baby and lack of vacation days. I’m really a lucky girl.

We had a quick champagne toast before they went out to have some more pre-ceremony cocktails and take their seats before my Dad came up see me and get ready to walk me down the aisle!

This is my Dad’s reaction when he saw me ready to walk down the aisle in my dress. Our photographer captured it perfectly!

Next week I will share Charles getting ready! Stay tuned for a lot more photos and be sure to catch up on my other wedding posts here in the mean time. I’ve got posts on just about every aspect of planning and will be including more over the next few weeks. XO

    Hello!
I loved looking at your DW recap. I am currently engaged and we are planning to elope in either Versailles or somewhere in Italy. Do you have any suggestions for navigating the legal process? We are finding that it is a lot of red tape involved.

      Hi Shannon,

I am so glad!! We found that the easiest way was to do all of the legal stuff & paperwork here! Everyone we talked to who had gotten married abroad in Europe recommended handling the paperwork before/after to make it easier. Otherwise, there are a lot of services who will do everything for you and navigate it all for you, but that comes with a price!

Good luck planning! You can’t go wrong in Italy!

      Best,
      Lauren

Hi Kate, Thank you!! I figured it was better to have it in my own control than with someone I couldn’t trial til the week of the wedding!!! haha
