There are few things more classic than a plaid flannel for Fall. I think that year after year this is one piece of clothing that continues to be in style. Even if you opt out of a flannel material, but still get the look with a plaid button down, having one in your closet is a must. I love not only offering new items for you all to add to your closet, but help you with styling inspo! This helps you either get the most bang for your buck with new items or to be inspire with new ways to style existing items. Today, I’m sharing 13 ways to style a flannel for Fall.
13 Ways to Style a Flannel for Fall
I previously shared 15 ways to style a cardigan & also 12 ways to style a classic camel coat. Today’s outfits are featuring an adorable under $60 flannel style button down that comes in 8 colors. I’ll also be rounding up tons of other cute options for you all to shop!
Denim Shorts
Fall temperatures in Texas doesn’t really consistently start until later in October, so styling a flannel with denim shorts is one of the most practical ways to wear it. The first look below is one of my go to options. I like to halfway tuck it in & wear it with a classic pair of cognac booties. I’ve also got a super casual look with sneakers & a hat, which is great for running errands. I also love it styled for sort of a ‘hiking’ vibe over a white t-shirt with fun booties. You can easily put the flannel on or off as temps drop & it gives you a chance to wear some new cute booties without getting too hot.
Biker Shorts
Biker shorts have been one of the biggest trends in 2020. See my posts on 4 ways to style biker shorts & a roundup of the cutest biker shorts for more style inspo. The first outfit is a classic biker short with a graphic sweatshirt & sneakers. I LOVE looks like this for on the go or just a casual day at home & the flannel makes it feel a bit more Fall festive. The second look is actually a biker short romper & trust me when I say it is the softest, most comfortable thing EVER. I am obsessed. I love the unexpected addition of the booties for an edgier slightly more dressed up look. I shared this bike short romper here when I wore it as a comfy road trip look with the flannel tied around my waist with sneakers.
Mini Skirt
A fun way to style a flannel for a night out is with a mini skirt! This faux leather one is so flattering & comfortable. I love the unexpected pairing of the leather & dressier booties with the more casual flannel. It’s a perfect Fall date night look & this outfit looks so cute with sneakers or OTK boots, too.
Leggings
Who doesn’t live in leggings in the Fall & Winter months? I love them. The Spanx faux leather legging is my favorite! I styled two different casual looks with leggings. The first one is just with a classic thermal tee & sneakers with the flannel tied around my waist. The second is with the flannel buttoned up & with hiking style shearling boots. I love this flannel because it’s longer in the back, which makes it perfect to wear with leggings. You can also dress this look up with booties or OTK boots!
Jeans
Of course I had to include jeans in the roundup! I wanted to share both black jeans & then two different pairs of blue jeans to give you all a few styling ideas. The first look below is with black skinny jeans, a black bodysuit, & some fun statement boots. I love these boots so much that I have them in black (as you’ll see below). This is such a cute dinner look! The other two looks are a little more casual. The first is over a black cami bodysuit with the flannel worn off the shoulder & paired with fun booties. Really, any color booties would work with this look. The second is the flannel just buttoned up & half-way tucked in with sneakers.
Dresses
I love pairing my flannels with dresses. It’s such a fun way to either make a summer dress feel more Fallish or to dress down a look & give it an effortless vibe. Below I’m sharing two options with dresses, but honestly I feel like I could have shared SO many other options by just switching out my shoes. The first look is styled over a tank sweater dress with it tied in the middle & booties. This is cute when you’re a little chilly & you want to opt for a flannel over a jacket. The second is a dressier going out or date night look with a mini sweater style dress & fun boots. Sneakers, OTK boots, or really any other shoe would work with both of these looks.
I’d love to know which look of the 13 ways to style a flannel for fall is your favorite! Do you have any other ways that you like to style your flannels that I missed? I’ve shared a few other options on stories or on my feed featuring flannels, so be sure to look there for even more inspo! I’m also making a fun REEL with all the looks seen here on Instagram! Check below for more flannel options to shop, too.
Let me know what other staple items you want me to style next! These are such a fun challenge for me & I hope they are so helpful. You don’t always need to get ‘new’ items to be stylish! You can find inspo for new ways to style pieces that you already have & maximize your CPW (cost per wear) of the items. XO
