Some things don’t completely change over time. There are updates or subtle differences, but the overall concept stays the same. Each time of year seems to have something that defines it. It’s time to put your pineapples and your palm trees away, because the temps are dropping (slowly here in Texas) and it’s time to bring out Fall’s biggest pattern: plaid. Year after year, plaid rules. There’s always new adjustments to it or ways to incorporate it into your wardrobe, but it remains a closet staple for this time of year. Today, I’m sharing the first of many plaid outfits you’ll see on the blog and a roundup of my favorite plaid pieces.
I’ll talk about this look first. I saw this skirt and loved the zipper details, because I thought it provided a little edge. Plaid skirts can quickly look a little too school girl, so I love the contrast the hardware gave. My first thought when I see a plaid skirt is often Cher from Clueless or the uniforms on Gossip Girl. I paired it with this sweatshirt top for a laid back look. I’m obsessed with how comfy and laid back it is! I styled it with heeled sock booties for a date night or girls night out look. This top is a great price point, too. For more of an every day look, this skirt is also so adorable with sneakers like these or these. I added this metallic clutch, which is my latest bag purchase. I am obsessed! Metallics are one of my top seven trends for Fall and this little clutch is the perfect way to incorporate the trend into your wardrobe. This one is a little bit of an investment, but it’s timeless and will get so much wear. If it’s a little too much of a splurge for you, don’t worry! I’ve linked some other great options at the end of this post.

I hope this helps you stock up your closet with tons of plaid for the upcoming season. I always try to avoid looking like either a school girl, lumberjack, or cowboy when I style my plaid. I think the key is to balance out your accessories. Add a little edge, a statement necklace, or a pair of heels. If you’re going to go for a white shirt with a skirt, go for an easy t-shirt or something more casual over a button down, then dress it up with heels. I actually love wearing a striped t-shirt with a leather jacket and a plaid scarf. I can’t wait to share a few more plaid outfits I’ve recently styled with you all, soon.
Hope your week is off to a great start! XO
I love this outfit, it is so cute! I would love to be able to wear skirts, especially if they are plaid, without tights in Autumn but the UK just won’t allow it. It is a bit too cold. I will definitely be getting onto the plaid trend though.

I hope you’re having a lovely Tuesday,
