SPIRULINA SMOOTHIE RECIPE

I love a good, nutrient packed smoothie or smoothie bowl. I find that they are so satisfying & are such an easy way to get in a lot of good, healthy foods. I like to prep as many ingredients as I can ahead of time for the week in a bag so I just add the liquid & any frozen ingredients to it & blend so I have a quick, easy meal or snack ready to go. This spirulina smoothie recipe has become my new go to over the past two weeks. I seriously wake up craving it! It’s so fresh & delicious & is loaded with good ingredients. I feel like a glowing health goddess after drinking it! If you’re unfamiliar with spirulina, it’s definitely something I recommend adding into your daily routine, as it’s loaded with vitamins & nutrients. Below I am sharing the benefits of spirulina & my easy, delicious, Whole 30 approved spirulina smoothie recipe.

BENEFITS OF SPIRULINA

If you haven’t heard of spirulina, it’s a nutrient packed organism & oh so good for you! It grows in either fresh or salt water & is a type of cyanobacteria, which is a family of single-celled microbes, often referred to as blue-green algae. It provides comparable protein as an egg & gives you all the essential amino acids. One of the main benefits of spirulina is that it is a powerful antioxidant & has strong anti-inflammatory properties.

Studies have shows that some of the benefits of spirulina is that it may help reduce the risk of: heart disease, cancer, high blood pressure, allergies, & anema. Spirulina helps improve gut health & can help improve your metabolism & therefore help with weight loss. It is known for giving good, natural energy & may help improve muscle strength & endurance. Studies have also shown that spirulina is great for helping with mood & can help improve some mental health struggles. All in all, spirulina is great for you & making this spirulina smoothie recipe is a great way to add this powerful little powder into your diet.

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup of coconut water
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 cup of spinach
  • 1/2 cup of fresh berries (I like blueberries)
  • 1/2 of a peeled cucumber
  • 1/2 of an avocado
  • 1/2 of a pitted date
  • 1/2 a small lemon, juiced
  • 1 Tablespoon of spirulina

DIRECTIONS

  1. Add all ingredients to a blender
  2. Blend until smooth & well combined.
  3. Enjoy!

Easy, peasy.. right?! Like I mentioned above, I like to prep by keeping my spinach, cucumber, date, lemon juice, & berries in a baggie or container so all I have to do is add my liquid, avocado, spirulina powder, & frozen banana & it’s ready to blend. It saves a few minutes prepping those ingredients together at the beginning of the week which can be really helpful in the midst of a busy day.
